PDF Merge puts every page from every file you drop into one shared grid, adding each file's pages as soon as that file finishes loading, and lets you drag pages — across file boundaries — into whatever final order you want before exporting a single combined PDF. Thumbnails render four pages at a time in a background worker so loading several large source files doesn't stall the tab, and nothing you drop is ever sent anywhere.

How to merge PDF files

  1. Drop two or more PDFs onto the Load PDFs panel, or click it and select several files at once; each one appears as a chip with its page count.
  2. Arrange the pages in the grid by dragging a thumbnail onto another, or with the Earlier and Later buttons under each page — pages from different files can be mixed freely.
  3. Turn any sideways page with its rotate icon and remove unwanted ones with the trash icon.
  4. Click Export PDF, then Download to save the single combined file, named after the first file you loaded with a -merged suffix.

Combining pages, not just files

Drop two or more PDFs and their pages land together in one continuous grid rather than staying grouped by source file — that's the actual difference between merging and simply concatenating. A page from file B can be dragged directly between two pages of file A, and the exported PDF will honor that exact interleaving rather than always keeping each source document's pages contiguous.

How cross-file pages become one document

Behind the grid, pdf-lib's page-copy call works fastest against a run of consecutive pages from the same source file, so the export step first groups your final ordering into consecutive same-file runs before copying — a page from file A, then three from file B, then one more from file A, becomes three separate copy calls rather than five. The output is stitched back together in your exact chosen order regardless of how many groups that takes.

Rotating pages as part of a merge

Each click on a page's rotate icon adds a 90-degree clockwise turn to that page, and the merged file stores the final angle. If a source PDF's own page already carried an odd, non-90-degree rotation value — something malformed scanners occasionally write — that pre-existing angle is combined with your rotation and snapped to the nearest clean 90-degree multiple, rather than compounding into something a viewer would render at a wrong angle.

The free-tier limit on how many files you can combine

A free merge export combines up to 10 source files at once, with no limit on how many separate merges you run. Each source file can be up to 300 pages long; that ceiling is measured per document, so ten 300-page files still pass. Pro removes both the file count and the page ceiling.

You can load more than ten files and arrange their pages, but the Export button stops with a notice until you remove some of them or split the job into two merges.

Your PDFs stay on your device while merging

Upload-based merge services send your documents to a server, stitch them there and hand back a download. This tool reads each file into the tab and copies its pages into a fresh PDF inside a Web Worker, so the originals are never transmitted or stored anywhere else. The files on your disk are only read, never rewritten.

How many PDFs can I merge for free?

In what order will my merged PDF files appear?
Exactly in the order the grid shows when you click Export. Each file's pages are appended as that file finishes loading, which is usually the order you added them, so glance over the grid and drag or use Earlier and Later to fix anything out of place.
Can I put a page from one file between two pages of another?
